St. Augustine Sirima Secondary School

S2060477St. Augustine is a large school with almost 400 hundred students. The school has 2 streams from form one (grade 9)  to form four (grade 12). It is well built with almost all the facilities required for a high school in Kenya as compared to other local schools. St Augustine is also one of the centres of Excellence in the area and attracts students from other regions due to the high performance of the students. Its fee is quite high and mostly unaffordable to most of the parents in the area surrounding it as most of them are poor.S2060476

For this reason a large number of students come from other regions and from well off families though there are still some that are from the surrounding communities like the PA-MOJA sponsored students and the few lucky children whose parents have been able to afford to keep them in the school.S2060449

The only major challenge in the school is availability of milk for students’ tea which is a cultural custom in Kenya. Due to the large number of students, much milk is needed to make the students’ tea which then is a major challenge to the school administration. Students are provided with ten o`clock tea as well as 4 o`clock tea which requires a lot of milk.

The school also has a challenge of congestion in their dormitories. The form 1 and 2 students sleep together while the form 3 and 4 students also sleep together, the boys separate from girls. There are only 4 dormitories in the school, which is why it is so crowded.S2060474

The students of St Augustine Sirima also engage themselves in co-curricular activities like basketball, netball and football (called soccer in North America) among many others. They also have clubs like entertainment, scouts, debate and music.

They also have a green house constructed for them by PA-MOJA through Ol Pejeta, a school bus, a computer lab which Afretech has also supported,  a library which PA-MOJA has supported by adding books, and an equipped laboratory.
