Thome Boys’ School Visit

PA-MOJA volunteers, Heather Hall, Alison Stuart, Brittney Wallace and Sheridan Tochkin visited Thome Boys’ School which specializes in educating top performing boys from disadvantaged families.

The volunteers were impressed with the challenges that the students and staff of his new school have to overcome. They have run out of space so their dorm and classroom is in the same room.

PA-MOJA has provided bursaries for two students, including form 3 (grade 11) student, Kalvin Kariuki, who is a nomadic herder from 400 kilometres away. This year, he is the top of his class.

PA-MOJA also purchased a water tank, two Friesian cows and a shed. One cow is pregnant so the school is looking forward to an increase in milk production.  The school is about to implement a biogas system.

The volunteers showed the boys a video made by Canadian school, Burnaby South, in which students created messages of hope and inspiration.  The Thome boys then created their own messages to send back to a potential sister school.
