PA-MOJA Team Visits Endana Primary School

As the PA-MOJA team entered the school compound, 220 nursery children gave a warm welcome by holding hands with the visitors.

This was quite a heart warming welcome. Mr. Samuel Kamau, the head teacher,  took the team members for a tour around the school. In each classroom the students were introduced to the members of the team and then sent out into the field for the performances. The students were all very excited about the guests and the assembly in the field.

All the classes performed dances or sang songs which were awesome. The highlight of the performance were two traditional Maasai dances, a folk song and a sacred song.  Students Perform the dances

These dancers have been invited to compete  in the National Music Competition in Nakuru. This has made Mr. Kamau very proud because this is the first time the school has made it to compete in the Nationals. The dancers were dressed in colorful traditional Maasai artier.

After the performances, Mr. Kamau welcomed the team into his office which was decorated with many academic certificates of merit.

Mr Samuel Kamau and Moses

Mr Kamau was interviewed by Moses Waihenya of the Ol Pejeta Community staff and said,  “ I am happy to be the longest serving headteacher  in this school and being a teacher is one of the best things that has happened to me.” It was obvious to all that  a strong connection exists between Mr. Kamau and the students. When asked, “What motivates you and brings the strong connection between you and the students?”, his answer is “that children motivate him, he has a father-child relationship  with his students.” To motivate the students, he interacts with all classes and teaches some of the upper classes, that is from grade 4 to grade 8.

Early Bird Corner

In addition to that he has two tree planting areas called ‘The Heroes and Heroines Corner’ and the ‘Early Birds Square’. The first place is where the highest performing and most improved students can plant a tree.  The students enjoy this reward for their good performance.

The ‘Early Bird Square’ is where the students who arrive early to school can also plant a tree. As we leave the office it’s already lunch time and we see smiles on the children’s faces as they queue and serve themselves lunch.
