Beatrice Ekomwa, a former PA-MOJA sponsored student from Endana Secondary school who just completed her form four final exam, was selected by the Ol Pejeta Conservancy to represent her area in a unique conservation and public health project. Beatrice was delighted to have had this chance to gain extra skills immediately following her form four completion. This project was generously sponsored by the OPC and volunteers from Nepal and Germany.
The international delegation was invited by the OPC to teach community leaders how to build and use a more efficient and healthy cooking stove (jiko). Through their Community Outreach Department, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy selected one person from each community area to take part in the week and a half training sessions.
PA-MOJA has played a significant role in allowing Beatrice to complete her schooling . She wanted to thank PA-MOJA for its sponsorship throughout her high school years.
After their ten day training session, the trainees left Ol Pejeta armed with Construction and Application Certifications eager to teach alternative construction and cooking techniques to their communities. Through this employment project, community members will not only have improved energy efficiency, but improved health benefits as the new jikos, unlike the traditional ones, have a chimney that minimizes smoke inhalation.
Thanks to Ol Pejeta and the Nepalese and German volunteers, they will be paid according to the number of jikos constructed in their communities. Congratulations to Beatrice and her fellow trainees for making this brilliant contribution to their communities!
their Energy Saving Jiko Constructors cerificates.
