There’s a Lot Happening at Lake of Two Mountains High School

concert

For the last three school years students at all levels at Lake of Two Mountains High School have been supporting and collaborating with Thaura Secondary School in Laikipia Kenya.

From 8:00 p.m. on November 22 to 6:30 a.m. on November 23, Ron Edwards Hall at Lake of Two Mountains High School was transformed into a dormitory as the 2014 Graduating Class hosted a sleep over event to create awareness about PA-MOJA.

The sleep over event began with a video presentation of Project Kenya Sister School website (https://pa-moja.com/) followed by singing and dancing to the Swahili lyrics of Jambo Bwana, one of the best internationally known Kenyan pop songs.

At times it seemed that the energy produced by the thirty-four secondary students was enough to power the school’s electrical needs for the entire event. For almost ten hours the students were engaged in a variety of non-stop activities. Whether it was for the students’ sake or for that of the teachers is still unsure but finally at 1:30 a.m. students spread their mattresses and sleeping bags on the floor of the school’s cafeteria. Of course, it took another hour until the whispering and laughter faded as each student gave way to sleep.

Lake of Two Mountains High School’s sleepover accomplished its goal of bringing awareness to PA-MOJA and Tharua Secondary School. During 2014 all students at Lake of Two Mountains High School are looking forward to participating in a variety of PA-MOJA activities.

A special thanks to the 2014 Graduating Class and the following teachers for initiating, organizing and giving of their time and effort, including a good night’s sleep: Ms. Lagopoulos, Mr. Michael Fitch, Mr. Altarac, Ms. Milea, Ms. Guerin, Mr. Sweet and Principal Mr. Simoneau.

On the evening of December 13, 2013 LTMHS students in secondary one to five raised almost $600.00 for PA-MOJA while demonstrating their musical talents to an audience of 130 people.

For several months, under the direction of Mr. Michael Fitch, LTMHS’ music teacher, students rehearsed their musical talents. Some students sang beautiful melodies while others played musical instruments such as guitars, keyboards and drums. For many of the students it was their first time performing in front of an audience, a feat not taken lightly. It is also important to know that while the students demonstrated their talents, there were many others who gave of their generosity of time and effort in making sure that the stage and sound system were ready and operational.

A second concert is being considered for May 2014. Although it will be difficult to out perform December’s concert, there is no doubt that Mr. Fitch and his students will not disappoint.
