Kenneth Wandati Magu – Graduated Student

In 2008, we stayed at the Jumia Resort Centre in Limuru, a couple hours southwest of Nanyuki.  We decided to go for a walk to see the local farms.  We noticed a young boy following us and it was clear he wanted to interact. We asked him a few questions and found out his name was Kenneth and he had heard that a group of Canadians were in town. He unbuttoned his shirt to reveal a Canada shirt he had purchased in the local market. He was carrying a porcupine quill which he used to create art, his primary passion.

It just happened that we had a beautiful case filled with art supplies that a friend had given us to donate to a budding artist in Kenya. We told Kenneth to meet us at the Resort Centre in a couple of hours.

When he arrived, he was wearing a suit, obviously very excited to receive his gift. He was extremely thankful for the gift and we exchanged emails.

We recently heard from Kenneth. He is continuing to paint and hoping to go back to college to continue his diploma in aeronautical engineering.  He was sixteen when we met him and is now 25 years old. Here are some of his paintings.
