[two_third]
NAME:  Christine Ole Santa
Age: 17
Form: 4 (Grade 12) – January 2020
School: Njoro Girls’ School – Boarder
PA-MOJA Scholarship started:  Form 1 (Grade 9)

Sponsoring school: Queen Elizabeth Secondary, Surrey, BC

Christine is a student at Njoro Girls School. Her parents separated when she was very young. Her father left the family and has never been heard from since. Her mother, who was unemployed and had another child, was not able to take care of her.

After a year of destitute living, Christine’s aunt took in their whole family and now lives with them in Endana. Her mother is still unemployed and lacks the skills to do anything more than small scale subsistence farming.

When Christine graduates from school, she wants to become a doctor because people in her community lack good medical services and have to travel all the way to Nanyuki town for treatment. She also feels that as a female doctor, she will be able to persuade many women to stop relying on traditional herbal medicine that often does not work can make the problem worse. “It is important to be a good role model to other girls in the community”, she adds.

Christine has a message for her PA-MOJA donors:  “Without a scholarship, I would not have gone to school and I am sure I would be working on other people’s farms. I feel that the best way for me to express my gratitude is by working hard enough to achieve the grades to enter university. This way I can come back to the community and help PA-MOJA support the community.  Thank you to PA-MOJA. I am so grateful.”
