A Leader in the Making
Andrew believes he was born a leader something the 16 years old boy is very proud of. In his primary school, he was the class prefect and when he joined grade nine he was selected a class prefect. This is due to his expressive and brave character.
Andrew the fourth born in a family of five grew up under the care of his grandmother. His mother was married as the second wife and it became unbearable for his father to take care of fourteen children. It is at this point that Andrew requested his mother to go and stay with his grandmother and the mother alleged it is a wise decision.
Life was not easy at his grandmother home. She was old and could not work. She depended on well-wishers for relief food. He never got a chance to join school. In one of the visits, a group which was giving them relief food came across Andrew and demanded to know why he was not in school. His grandmother explained to them his mother’s situation and she was also not in a position to take him to school due to lack of money. This moved them thus decided to sponsor Andrew for his primary school education. They enrolled him in Jane Goodall School.
After his national exam, he had no hope of joining secondary school despite him emerging as one of the top students due to the challenges back at home. At the back of his mind, he knew his parents were not in a position to raise his fees bearing in mind there were other younger siblings still in school. It is at this point of despair a community leader informed his mother of the Ol Pejeta-PA-MOJA scholarship program thus decided to try his luck. They applied and he was among few who qualified for a full scholarship.
Besides been a class prefect, he represents his school in football games. He also loves singing and dancing.
The major changes that he would like to see in his community are; the community members conserving the environment and tribal clashes especially between Pokot and Samburu coming to an end, this tells why he is a member of peace club in school.
Thank you message to the donor, “Thank you so much for giving me an opportunity to join secondary school. I am now confident I will be able to pursue my dream of becoming a doctor and challenge other children in my community to work hard in their academics regardless of their family challenging backgrounds.”
