Moses Karanja

Name: Moses Karanja

Community: Endana

School: Kenyatta High School Mahiga

I am Moses Karanja Njohega, hailing from Endana village in Segera Location, Laikipia County. I was born on 5th February 2006. I am the first born in my family, which consists of six members: my father, my mother, my two sisters, my brother (who is the youngest), and myself.

I deeply value my community, the Endana Community. During the holidays, my friends and I come together to collect litter around Endana center to ensure that the environment remains clean. Maintaining cleanliness is vital as it reduces the risk of infections caused by a dirty environment.

At home, I spend most of my time listening to music, which I enjoy a lot. Music relaxes me, refreshes my mind, and provides entertainment, especially during sad times. My favorite genre is Afrobeat, sometimes known as Naija music. Ayra Star is my favorite artist, and “Rush” is my favorite song.

Although I no longer participate in sports, there was a time when I fell and twisted my left arm while playing football in eighth grade. The pain was intense, and it made me regret participating in that match. Since then, I’ve made a personal vow not to engage in any sports. However, I do enjoy watching football, particularly the English Premier League, and my favorite team is Manchester United.

My preferred subjects are Physics and French. While in the Physics Laboratory, I was amazed to discover that salty water and lemon could generate enough electricity to light up a bulb. This discovery sparked my interest in Physics, and I became eager to conduct more experiments in the subject. Additionally, I was pleasantly surprised to find French teachers at my school when I joined form one. Learning French was intriguing and enjoyable, although I faced challenges with pronunciation and spelling. I put in extra effort, even purchasing a French dictionary, as I am determined to become fluent in the language. I love conversing in French with classmates and our French teachers.

My aspiration is to become an aeronautical engineer. Since childhood, I’ve been fascinated by aircraft. I often wondered how enormous planes could fly while smaller objects couldn’t. I conducted research on airplanes and helicopters through engineering and technology books and the internet, which deepened my interest in understanding their mechanics and construction. Hence, I found aeronautical engineering the most suitable career path for me. I dream of working in an aircraft construction company.

During my free time in the evenings, I browse the internet, especially TikTok. The platform entertains me with amusing clips, and it keeps me updated on trending content and the latest songs. Sometimes, I use the internet for research on study topics or to download revision notes.

My academic journey began in 2012 at Endand Primary School, where I joined baby class. I continued my education there until 2017 when I transferred to Ithagani Primary School in Nakuru County. This move was due to my mother’s illness, and after nearly six months in the hospital, she recovered, but we remained in Nakuru until December of the same year before returning to Endana. I resumed Class Six in 2018 at Endana Primary School and completed my primary education there. In March 2021, I took my KCPE exams and scored 370 marks. I applied for the Ol Pejeta Scholarship and fortunately received it.

On 2nd August 2021, I joined Kenyatta High School-Mahiga in Othaya, Nyeri County. It’s an extra-county school, and I’m enjoying my time there. I am sincerely grateful to Ol Pejeta Conservancy and the Pamoja Group for granting me this scholarship, which is an invaluable opportunity for me to secure a brighter future. My dream is to attain financial stability to support my younger siblings, sustain my family, and contribute to the welfare of members in my community.
