I am Emma Wambui from Marura Village, just a neighbour to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. I come from a family of five, where I happen to be the firstborn. I went to Irura Primary School, which is just within our village and I managed to complete my primary education in the same school.
While still in school, I worked very hard to be able to reach the target set in order to be able to apply for the Ol Pejeta scholarship. I managed to get good marks which made me qualified to apply for the scholarship. I also got the scholarship due to the fact that they saw my academic potential and the fact that my parents could not have taken me to high school to be able to make my dream of becoming a teacher come true. This was because while I was still in primary school, my dad got ill and then he got fired from his job. My mum then became responsible for our survival.
After getting the support from Ol Pejeta, I joined Loise Nanyuki Girls, where I worked hard to pursue the career of teaching. I really desire to become a teacher because I want to be able to talk to my students and give words of encouragement to them just as what happened to me. Whenever I am in class and a teacher is in front of me, I really see as if I am the one standing in front of many students from different backgrounds teaching and also talking to them. I will work hard until my dream comes true. I practise teaching with my siblings by talking and giving them assignments which they submit for marking.
Afart from teaching, I am a talented drawer. I always make drawings whenever I am free. My siblings also motivate me to make the best drawings possible for them. I also like listening to Bongo music whenever I am performing my daily chores at home.
I’ll make sure that I put as much effort as possible in my education so that I can meet my dreams and be a great teacher in the future. I am really grateful to Ol Pejeta for this golden opportunity that I will make use of. I promise to work hard and pay back your generosity by making sure that I do something that I am proud of.
