I am Maria, I was born in 2007 in Laikipia County, Kenya. I was born into a family of five and am the second child. I attended Kiamariga Primary School, which was conveniently located near my home.

My dream career is teaching. I have a passion for education and have experience as a peer teacher in both math and English languages (ERE) in primary school. I also enjoy advising and encouraging my classmates, which led them to appoint me as their peer counselor. Once I pursue my teaching career, I plan to progress step-by-step until I become a professor. I particularly admire teaching English and literature. When I see teachers in action, I imagine myself doing the same one day, imparting knowledge to students who will eventually become important members of society.

Upon becoming a teacher, I would return to my community and educate children facing challenging circumstances or those struggling. I believe that, given the opportunity, some of these children could achieve incredible things and contribute positively to the community and the nation. Additionally, I am an environmental conservationist who enjoys planting trees and encouraging others to do the same whenever possible.

My only hardship has been the lack of school fees, which I have overcome thanks to the scholarship generously provided by the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. I was awarded this scholarship because of my courage, confidence in speaking and answering questions, and honesty in my responses. I am incredibly grateful for their support. During my primary school years, I faced challenges such as crossing a river on my way to school. When it rained, the river would flood and overflow its banks, forcing me to stay home until the water subsided. This caused me to miss many classes. Additionally, there were instances where wild animals like hyenas, leopards, and elephants escaped from the conservancy, making me late for school due to the danger of being attacked on the way. Despite these obstacles, I persevered and passed my exams once I returned to school. My strong time management skills led to my selection as the school bell ringer and eventually the school president.

One of my hobbies is acting, which inspired me to start writing stories. My classmates and I would act out these stories as dramas during closing ceremonies. I continue to write novels, plays, and short stories in my free time. I find inspiration through watching movies and reading various novels.

I am confident that I will achieve my goals one day. This is my story.
