Judy Nyambura

Judy Nyambura began working with PA-MOJA in 2016 when the school was introduced to Butterfly Effect. At that time, Judy was the librarian at Sweetwaters Secondary School, so she was given the responsibility of being in charge of PA-MOJA projects at the school. Judy recalls “it was through Butterfly Effect that a world of possibilities was opened for my students.” Through PA-MOJA’s Butterfly Effect online learning platform, Sweetwaters students were encouraged to research any topics they were interested in: different cultures, social issues, gender, feminism, leadership, education, teen issues, environmental conservation, and so many more. They were able to connect the new knowledge to their own experiences and share this learning online with their Kenyan and Canadian counterparts.

In 2018, Judy was invited to accompany three students (Triza Gatwiri, Agnes Naserian, and Lucy Wachera) to Canada and visit the Langley, Coquitlam and Sea to Sky School Districts to learn more about Canadian school systems, share her knowledge about Kenya and see the Canadian side of Butterfly Effect.

In 2021 there was an opening at OPC for a Scholarship Coordinator and Judy was a perfect candidate.  She has an incredible work ethic and has made a huge impact working with OPC and PA-MOJA. Judy is instrumental to the success of the scholarship program. Prior to selection, Judy works with local leaders to choose the most deserving candidates. She then conducts personal home visits to ensure that applicants who have applied meet the criteria of financial need. Once students are part of the PA-MOJA/OPC scholarship program, she monitors their welfare, their academic success and ensures their fees are paid on time so students are always able to achieve at their highest potential.  After students graduate, Judy remains connected with students so they can become mentors to current students. Her dedication to the success of local students is of paramount importance.

“While working with PA-MOJA and the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, I have assimilated that when we create opportunities for the young people through education, we are safeguarding the future of the conservancy and empowering tomorrow’s generation.” Judy Nyambura
