Name: Girishon Gichini
School: DolDol Boys High School.
Graduated Student
Girishon lives with his grandparents and 2 sisters in a village called Njoguini. His parents separated 3 years ago and he has been living with his grandparents ever since. In 2020, he is the only boy who made it to the PA-MOJA line up which was hotly contested by girls from the communities around the Ol Pejeta conservancy.
Girishon has had to sit for his KCPE exam twice. The first time in 2018, he had to sacrifice his dream of joining high school, for his sister to join high school as his grandparents could not afford to take them both at the same time. So he had to repeat another year in primary hoping that the following year things would work in his favor. “I dreaded the impending reality that he might not join high school in 2020 because I take care of Girishon’s sister too and I rely on bursaries here and there to pay her school fees,” says Grandfather.
With a big smile, Girishon says, “I really did not have an idea of what was going to happen to my life because it was clear my grandfather would not be able to take me to school and take care of my sister too. I prayed very hard and had faith that I would go to school and thanks to Ol Pejeta this is now possible.” He wants to become a pilot and travel all over Africa and the world.
