Alice when she was in Form 2 (Grade 10)
Name: Alice Muthoni
School: Karoti Girls High School.
Community: Kiamariga
I am Alice Muthoni from Laikipia country, Rumuruti. I am a young girl who was born in 2006. I attend Karoti Girls High School in Kirinyaga and I am very proud to be a member of that school. I was supported by the Ol Pejeta Conservancy to join my high school because after completing my KCPE exam not only because I had good grades but also because of my interest and determination in education. The capability in me enabled me to be supported in my high school education to acquire more knowledge. Although I managed to get 350 marks in my KCPE, it was by the grace of God and a lot of effort that I put in during primary school because it took me an hour to walk to school. The people at Ol Pejeta realized that if I was that determined to get good grades and manage my time well even with this long distance walking, that I would be successful at high school.
Through the support of the PA-MOJA group I have been able to acquire new skills like interacting skills especially when we meet with other sponsored students from different schools and different places who have experienced a lot of things in life. We get to exchange ideas on how to be successful in life. I have also acquired new skills like baking different cakes using different methods because PA-MOJA has maintained my school fees which has allowed me to learn more and more.
I am from a single mother family where my mother is the bread winner at home. We live in a rental house of which I work hard and smart to keep my family healthy and help them live a better life. I want them to live a better life in the future than we do right now.
After high school I would like to join my dream university, which is Kenyatta University. I want to know more about medicine so that I can become one of the best doctors in the world. I would like to become a doctor so that I can help sick people and save the lives of many. My grandmother’s death inspired me to a doctor because she died of a stomach ache. I believe if I was a doctor by then, I would have treated her and saved her life.
In addition to that, I would like to be a successful lady to help all those who are needy and unable to afford to pay for hospital bills, which leads to their death. I will give back to the community and start an organisation where needy people will be treated in the hospital without payment.
Apart from becoming a doctor, I would like to learn more about hospitality. This is because I like serving people, especially foreigners. I admire my cousins life because she serves people and earns a lot of money, which helps her family be financially stable.
I like discovering new things and experimenting a lot, especially in science. This aligns with my career desire to be a doctor and discover new things. I also like reading novels and storybooks to make my language better and for effective communication. I also like reading different books to know the experiences of different people in life.
Moreover, my strengths are punctuality, time management, teamwork and my weakness is that I’m keen on everything that I do and I take some time just to make them perfect. I work hard in everything I do as I take the chance I have with a lot of seriousness until I succeed.
I hope to succeed in life and be a woman of integrity to help PA-MOJA to develop more and more. I will be a woman of integrity, strength and hope and help the needy kids also to have their dreams come true.
