My name is Bridget Wangari Wainoga. I was born in 2009. I live in Laikipia County, in Thome Village. I am a Kikuyu girl. My family consists of my parents and three children. I am the firstborn. My journey of education began when I joined Iriuko Primary School. I loved reading storybooks at a young age, and that is how I fell in love with books. I read despite watching movies, which was also a big part of my life. The movies I watched inspired me to dream and imagine.
As the years passed by, technology has been highly enhanced in developed countries. However, as we know, Kenya is making strides to catch up. I got inspired and wished one day to become a computer scientist to ease communication, use technology in diagnosis in hospitals, and so on. I also imagined that if we embrace technology, we can invent many gorgeous machines, such as robot dogs that are used to keep important documents safe and help deter criminals in a very short time. We should create a brave and great space for a better future. Human robots have also been invented, which help producers in various activities to learn more and discover the world.
Secondly, I wish to become an environmentalist one day. I read novels about the environment in books. It is a home for almost all creatures, therefore it is important for us to live comfortably, but if we destroy it, the climate is also damaged as a result of not being responsible for the external features around us. In the future, I really want to follow in the steps of Professor Wangari Maathai, who showed us how to better conserve our environment.
I really love playing and having happy moments with my family. After I had accomplished my primary education, I had to join my dream school. Earlier, before I heard about the Ol Pejeta Conservancy scholarships, which have changed people’s lives. Therefore, I applied for my scholarship and hoped I would receive one.
Later on, I was accepted because they saw academic potential and that I had big dreams. I was so glad and joyful when I heard that I had been selected. When I joined Ndururumo High School, I declared to work hard together with my teachers’ cooperation to fulfill my goals.
The life in high school is amazing and enjoyable, unlike primary school. The environment for education is very interesting. My friends and I have short discussions to reflect on what we had learned that day. We believe that we should leave each day better than we found it. I hope to get good grades for all four of my high school years and then pursue my career because I really want to show my community, country and the world that one can make it in life. I am looking forward to helping other children as the way I have been supported to help them learn and accept themselves.
Giving back to society is important to try to do good deeds for the upcoming generation to be able to follow. Integrity, strength, hope and oneness are virtues I have learned from Ol Pejeta and PA-MOJA. If we support one another, the world would be a better place. Many people have excelled in their careers from these scholarships.
Harvard University is my dream university after high school. My journey of success to join such a place is bearing fruits though hard work. I have read about this place in novels and storybooks and it gives me the dream of a great education. Many prominent leaders once joined this facility. I hope that one day I will join the campus and afterwards get my degree of science and technology as a graduate woman. Thank you Ol Pejeta and PA-MOJA for supporting me.
