INTRODUCTION:
Beatrice was born in 2010 and she is the youngest in a family of 4 children. Beatrice’s parents both are casual labourers who don’t have a steady income. Beatrice attended Kiambiriria Primary School and scored 326 marks on her KCPE to allow her to be admitted to Loise Nanyuki Girls School.
Beatrice’s Head Teacher describes her as an above average student who has good behaviour and who is creative, innovative and industrious. She was involved in the debating club and netball.
Here are Beatrice’s responses to the questions on the scholarship application:
- Why should you be considered for the scholarship?
Response: I am a hardworking student and when I get the scholarship I will not disappoint you. I will do my level best. I worked so hard to get the marks that qualify me for the scholarship. I was reading day and night. My parents are not capable to take me to a boarding school that I would wish to go to. If I depend on my parents alone I will be being sent home now and then (for fees), which makes it hard to concentrate in school. I would be happy to get the scholarship so that I can be a teacher and serve Kenyans and also help my parents.
I went to Kiambiriria Primary School and I had to pass through the bush to get to school. On the long walk to school I faced many challenges. One day I met with a lion but God saved me and I went back home. On another I found that the river was overflowing and I stood there not knowing what to. Just then a good Samaritan came and helped me across the river. It was very risky. I continued to go to school even though there were many problems and I finished successfully.
I would like to go to a boarding school more than a day school. It is possible to concentrate much more at a boarding school. I would also like to be at a boarding school so that I can not meet animals on my walk to school. When I go there, I will work hard enough and I will excel in secondary school so that I can become a teacher.
