[two_third]Name: Perpetual Nyawira Njuki
Age: 15 years
Form: 3 (Grade 10 in 2020)
Year Scholarship Started: 2018
Sponsored by: Private Donor

All her primary school friends reported school but she was left at home with no hope of joining secondary school. She confesses no single day would pass by without crying and praying God to provide her mother with school fees though she knew this was next to impossible considering the little her mother earns from her casual work is only enough to provide basic needs.

Perpetual fully gave up when one month passed without any help coming her way. It was a high time to consider option B which was to join a vocational school, join her mother in casual work or else get a job as a house help though it was not her wish. However, this was not bound to happen when a team from Ol Pejeta Conservancy paid her a visit. The team found her asleep in their small house yet it was early afternoon. Hopelessness was all filled up on her face at first meet up.

When she was told that she has qualified for the scholarship, Perpetual could not hide her tears of joy. She was one month late to join school but she promised to work very hard to redeem the lost time. This was evident after she did her midterm exam and performed exemplary well.

Perpetual is the third born in a family of four. Her first born sister has cleared secondary school, her brother is in form 4 at Wathituga Secondary school with the help of her uncle and her young brother is in class 3(grade 3).  Perpetual’s father passed on when she was very young. Her siblings tell her he was hospitalized for about a month and then he died. She doesn’t know her father, she says. Since her father’s death, her mother started doing casual work so that she could provide upkeep for her children. Life has never been easy for the family since then. At times Perpetual would miss school for days and accompany her mother to do casual work. The money earned she used it to buy some personal effects and pay part of her tuition fee.

Perpetual would like to be a surgeon when she grows up. This is because she loves saving other people’s lives. During school breaks, she assists her mother with house chores and during her free time she loves reading story books.

Perpetual would like to thank her donors so much and seeks God’s blessings upon them. With a chuckle on her face she says; “ Without this scholarship, I had three options at hand, to join my mother in casual work, get a job as a house help or join a vocational school. This would have completely deterred me from achieving my career goals.”
