PA-MOJA MARCH REPORT 2013

Cows Project

Cows project at Loise Girls NanyukiThe cow’s project has been doing well especially with the dry spell of January and February which does not spare most of the livestock in the ASAL (Arid and Semi Arid Lands). All the cows with some guidance from the AHA at Olpejeta conservancy have been confined to the zero grazing system of dairy cows. This has greatly reduced the loss of more cows to the deadly disease of yellow fever. A case in point is the cows at Endana high school where the weather conditions seemed not to favor the cows at all. With the zero grazing system adopted by the schools cows have greatly improved and in fact the cows at Endana are both pregnant. Despite all these, misfortunes happen and one of the cows at Loise girls miscarried on the fifth month but this was immediately taken care of by the AHA (Animal Health Assistant) from Olpejeta.

Cultural Exchange

In this month students from Endana secondary school had a cultural exchange with their sister school where there were some videos done by both schools where each school asked questions to the other and answers too (See Burnaby South’s video here). Students at Endana were very pleased with the cultural exchange and were greateful to their sister school.

Thome boys Welcome their sister schoolStill on cultural exchange Thome boys feel very privileged to have a new sister school GAMP and they did some welcome burners  to the school they are very grateful to PA-MOJAThome welcomes sister school for finding them a new sister school .

Biogas Project

Biogas at Loise Girls SecondaryDespite the heavy rains being experienced in the region, the biogas project is ongoing well. Most of the schools have filled the digesters as will be noted in the photos to be uploaded. Loise Girls, sweet Waters and Endana secondary biogas projects are full the only one experiencing some challenges is the one for Thome boys this being attributed to the fact that it is a center of excellence and the project was the last in completion however this will not take long because filling has commenced.

It must be noted that for the biogas to function fully it has to stay for a whole month when full so that there Biogas project at Sweetwaters secondarycan be accumulation of gas in the digester. By the month of May the project should be commissioned to begin.

  1. I have visited our projects last year as part of the PA-MOJA team and It’s so good to hear that the cows and the biogas projects are doing well. However I don’t know what the acronyms like AHA and ASAL mean. Maybe you can refer to them somewhere

    1. Sorry Madeleine i rectified that in the report and again “AHA” stands for Animal Health Assistant and “ASAL” stands for Arid and Semi Arid Lands
