On April 12th, 50 students from Burnaby South Secondary school held their famine fundraising event which raised $1500.00 for PA-MOJA. Students had a full day and night of group activities which included making personalized notebooks for each of the 190 students at Endana Secondary school in Kenya as their cultural exchange.
The students invited Dr. Gillian LaPrairie, the founder of PA-MOJA, to share stories of the inception of the organization and the positive impact of supporting the people of this area for both their own well-being and that of the wildlife in the area.
PA-MOJA Director, Alison Stuart, spoke about the 6-year connection between Burnaby South and Endana, highlighting the cultural exchanges over the years and the impact PA-MOJA has had on this school by providing desks and water tanks, helping to build a science lab, buying cows and constructing biogas facilities and constructing a rural library.
PA-MOJA Director, Silvia Knittel, filmed the students enthusiastically dancing, singing, and shouting greetings to their sister school in Kenya. The video will be shown to Endana students in Kenya who will respond with a video of their own.
Congratulations to the student government at Burnaby South for their leadership in organizing this event and to the dedicated students who attended.
