Tigithi Secondary Science Connection students, Brian Juma, Victor Mageto, William Kamau, George Gitonga, Joseph Maina, and Simon Njuguna in Nanyuki town, made colourful signs on behalf of their whole school to say Merry Christmas to Heritage Woods students in Coquitlam, B.C.

The students of Tigithi and Heritage Woods feel connected despite the distance between them.  One of the reasons for this special relationship is the budding science program that involves students from both schools.  The students interact via internet and Skype in order to support each others’ research. They say that this program has really strengthened their friendship, and they have learned much from each other. The students report feeling more passionate about science, and they have performed better in their classes in biology, physics, and chemistry.

The main thrust of the Science Connection has been for the students to develop scientific questions and research that they can then share with their counterparts in their sister school.  Most of the Tigithi students had never explored on the internet or communicated on Skype with someone in a different country and so they feel that this has been a great learning opportunity.   “It’s really awesome to chat with another person from a far away country like Canada” said Victor, Grade 11.  George, Grade 11, said that he can’t wait to start school in order to join the Science Connection Club. He really feels that he is a young scientist who works hand in hand with the other team members to develop science projects. Victor said,”I have come to realize that, to be a scientist, one should never give up in something you want to research. It is a matter of researching and researching over and over again without giving up till you get the answer for your query.”

Finally, the students stated that they are so grateful to PA-MOJA and Ol Pejeta Conservancy for the great support they have offered to Tigithi Secondary.

Stay updated on the PA-MOJA website for the updated video of these students from Tigithi Secondary wishing their sister school Heritage Woods a Merry Christmas and offering their thanks.
