Emma Wambui

Emma on school break

Emma in Form 1 (Grade 9)

Name: Emma Wambui Wambugu

School: Kalalu Girls Secondary School.

Emmah lives with her grandmother, Lucy Wambui, and her younger brother at Chuma village. Emma’s life took a turn when her father passed on a few years ago. His demise made her life and her mum’s very challenging and she felt she could not take care of them adequately. She decided to take her and her brother to their grandmother’s place and went to a nearby town to seek employment. The job search was however characterized with constant disappointment and she is still not able to provide for her kids.

Emmah’s grandmother is also a widow and takes care of two other children. She relies on small scale agriculture to feed the children. “This year our crops have been destroyed by the flash floods as a result of the heavy rains we are experiencing now. My other challenge is that we live on a disputed piece of land and so we don’t know where we will be living tomorrow. I am delighted that my granddaughter will go to high school and complete her studies.” – Lucy Wambui

If you ask Emma what she wants to become after school. She will confidently say “I am going to become a doctor”. She has so much hope and faith in herself we cannot help but believe and hope she gets her dream.
