School: Kangubiri Girls High School

Graduated Student

Kangubiri Girls High School is one of the oldest and best schools in Nyeri county. It was Ann’s first school of choice and she was ecstatic when she was discovered she had been admitted there for her secondary school education. However, her joy almost turned sour when she realized that her family may not afford to pay for her schooling there.

“I had faith that against all odds I would join high school and fulfill my dream of becoming a surgeon and help out many people who are suffering in the community,” she said.

Ann Grace comes from a village called Ex-rock where she lives with her mother, Eunice Wamucii Kairu. She also has an older brother.

Life has not always been easy for her family and her mum has struggled to take care of her and her brother. She remembers how one day they woke up to find all their goats had been stolen by bandits; this was one of their lowest moments in life since it was their only source of livelihood.

“I am now confident that my daughter will fulfill her dream of becoming a surgeon which is something that she has been passionate about from a very young age. This now gives me an opportunity to help out my son who is currently doing casual jobs to save up and join college. I thank you all for this opportunity.” says Eunice.
