Virtual Safari from Ol Pejeta wows Langley Fine Arts Students

What a thrill!!! On Nov. 9, Students in the two PA-MOJA Clubs at Langley Fine Arts School participated in a Virtual Safari at Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya. They got to meet Najin and Fatu, the two last remaining Northern White Rhinos on earth, led my Marvin Mwarangu and Zacharia Mutai. Najin and Fatu are a mother and daughter duo, and are healthy and safe due to the meticulous care and protection they receive at OPC.

If it wasn’t for Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the sub species of Northern White Rhino would be completely extinct. Scientists are currently working on a way to use frozen Northern White Rhino embryos from Fatu and the last Northern White Rhino males (who have since passed), with in vitro fertilization and a surrogate Southern White Rhino mother, in hopes of saving the species.

The call was so interesting, informative and fun! We hope other clubs can learn about the rhinos at OPC and arrange a virtual visit too!
