Lenanyokie Enock Lemayan

Community: Debatas

School: Maralal High School

INTRODUCTION:

Enock was born in 2011 and he is the second born of 4 children. His parents look for odd-jobs in the area, but the work is inconsistent and so they are not able to afford the fees for Enock. Enock moved to the Debatas area when he was in grade 4 and joined Uaso-Nyiro Primary at that time. He worked very hard and was able to attain 348 marks in his KCPE. This exceptional grade allowed him to be accepted to Maralal High School.

We held a tutoring session in early January at Uaso-Nyiro school for scholarship students in the area. We weren’t really expecting our new scholarship students to come, but when we arrived, Enock was there, ready to learn. We did a session on grade 9 and 10 level chemistry and Enock was learning the material as fast, if not faster than some of the students who had seen the material before. He was very curious and engaged the whole day. At one point I asked him what he would like to be when he grows up and he said ‘a chemical engineer’. I asked him why and he said ‘I have probably watched a few too many superhero movies’!

His Head Teacher says that Enock is a ‘very dedicated and focused pupil who is determined and academically gifted’ and that he is a ‘polite, well-behaved and reliable pupil’.

We are excited to have Enock as part of PA-MOJA’s scholarship program and wish him all the best as he starts his high school journey. .
