My name is Francis Nyabera Mohanga. My favorite subjects are Maths and Physics because they are essential for my future career as a pilot. I aspire to become a professional pilot, and these subjects are fundamental in aviation.
I actively participate in playing football, athletics, and basketball as my co-curricular activities. These activities help me stay physically fit, maintain good health, and enhance my flexibility.
I come from a humble background and was raised by my single mother along with my two brothers. Our family faced challenges after my parents’ divorce when I was young. Originally from Western Kenya, we relocated to Laikipia seeking peace and a fresh start. Despite financial hardships, my mother worked hard as the sole breadwinner, and her resilience was inspired by a Kikuyu proverb, ‘Ruciu ni rukeeririra,’ meaning ‘tomorrow will cry for itself.’ Growing up in these circumstances taught us the realities of life.
The hope of continuing to high school seemed dim due to financial constraints. However, my mother prayed for opportunities for me due to my academic brightness. I performed impressively in my national exam in 2021, scoring 328 marks. This achievement brought us immense pride. Fortunately, I applied for a scholarship offered by the renowned Ol Pejeta Conservancy, and through God’s grace, I was granted a full scholarship for my high school education.
In our traditions, there were outdated customs that affected gender equality, particularly where women were not allowed to own property. Over time, these outdated norms were discarded, and today, both genders are treated equally.
